An eternal commitment to the land.

At Casa de Uco we are committed to the environment, and strive to support local communities.

Our mission is to provide one of the most authentic and enriching travel experiences in a way that is respectful to the environment, sustainable and culturally rich. We are committed to preserving and protecting the natural splendor and the precious biodiversity of the Uco Valley. We respect nature, culture and hospitality. Casa de Uco has sealed an eternal commitment to the environment.

RECYCLE

Our waste plan is based on the principle of the three Rs (3R), which prioritizes the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste. With effort and creativity we search for the best destination for each type of waste generated at the hotel.

The used paper is given to the bookstore where it is recycled into new usable paper..
The glass is removed by the Neighborhood Union of the nearest town: La Quebrada, who sells the glass and donates the money collected to an organization that fights cancer.
The corks of the wines are collected and then delivered to a kindergarten where the children use them in their crafts.
Food waste produced by the kitchen is used as compost.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

The hotel has solar collectors to heat the water, thus consuming less gas when heating it.

The hotel also keeps track of the energy consumption to make sure it doesn’t exceed a certain level, especially in areas like the kitchen.

Because we are located in a mountain climate and the weather gets cold in winter, the heating system can be challenging. Casa de Uco has a mixed system of radiators to maintain a stable temperature in the hotel and also a heating system in each room, which can quickly reach a comfortable temperature as soon as the guests arrive.

WATER CONSERVATION

The hotel is located in an arid environment, with annual rainfall of 250 mm. The water used comes from groundwater, so every liter extracted is carefully reserved.

The vineyards have a drip irrigation system and achieve 90% irrigation efficiency. Soil mapping allows the identification of areas with different drainages, and using this information we can map and identify risks of poor drainages to best conserve water.

The Hotel and Winery have an internal wastewater treatment system. The waters, after being treated, irrigate an area of 200 poplars; which help offset carbon dioxide emissions.

OUR CUISINE

Casa de Uco has an organic and seasonal menu, and uses local ingredients from our garden and local farmers in the Uco Valley.

The hotel has its own organic garden where more than 30 different fruits, vegetables, and herbs are grown throughout the year.

REDUCING OUR IMPACT ON CLIMATE CHANGE

Staff is trained in energy consumption and climate change to raise awareness. We understand that each worker can be responsible to significantly conserve energy.
We encourage our guests to tour the vineyards and move around the property by bike, on foot or on horseback.
In the laundry room, a system of reusable cloth bags is utilized in order to reduce the use of plastics from petroleum sources.

ON THE PATH TO BECOMING CARBON NEUTRAL

In our country, 1 hectare of land is destroyed every 3 minutes. Since deforestation is one of the main causes of greenhouse gas emissions (responsible for more GHG emissions than those of all the planes, trains and cars in the world), it is urgent to take action to prevent the advancement of deforestation.

We are committed to reducing and offsetting our CO2 emissions. For this reason, we are donating 10 square meters of native forest in the Misiones jungle for each reservation that is made in Casa de Uco. This way, we will help prevent more CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere, thus offsetting our impact on the environment.
